Pinks require excellent drainage, protection from winter wet, protection from spring winds, and protection from rabbits. Yet, who can have a garden without them? We delight in their fragrance, evergreen foliage, charming flowers, and long bloom time.

D. knappii is a rare, short-lived alpine from Hungary that has no fragrance, but does have large, clear yellow blooms and an excellent growth habit. It looks its best when grown in mass in poor, well-drained soil.

Fun fact:
The name Pinks does not actually refer to the color but to the serrated edge of the petals which resembles the zigzag edge created by Pinking Shears used by tailors.
