Can other palm-addicts post pictures of their D. rivularis?

That looks great dave .I have had no luck growing it here I have lost 2 of them even in my best protected spots with lots of water. I tried it in an area of my yard that has continually wet soil as I have read they tend to grow next to rivers hence the name Rivularis

  • 1 month later...

Had a nice smaller one I kept indoors for almost 2 years and was a slow, but steady grower. Just starting to see coloration at base. New fronds emerge a pinkish color. I kept mine in tray with water at the bottom most all the time.

I killed mine when I misted it, like the water sucked all the moisture out of the fronds. Had similar issue with a couple of Lucualas and Howeas too. This was even using RO water. I don't mist palms anymore and have since replaced my Sari Palm with another, although smaller.

Hate starting over, but as long as I learn from mistakes...

This is one palm I have a love / hate relationship with. Some days they look good and all is well, then other days they look unkempt and ratty.

When I keep saying 'should they stay or should they go' the prognosis usually isn't good. For now though, they're safe.

Aloha Phiippe, I am so happy to see someone else who is growing this palm. (Didn't know Tim had one....how have I missed it?)

I bought three after seeing them at the famous Sullivan garden. When I commented on how much I liked them the experienced palm person who was standing next to me looked at me as if I was crazy. I bought three anyway. I would agree that they are not what you would call a gorgeous palm but they are unique and interesting and fall into the category I like to call "Bad Hair Day" Palms.
