It’s planting time for some of my new varieties of palms this time a lanonia magalonii that was in a 140mm container once again with good roots the usual treatment amended soil along with irrigation and some loving attention when I can get around to it should keep this palm pretty happy iam pretty confident in the cold weather not being a problem

Mine hasn’t had any cold damage and it’s been through two winters since I have planted it.

Nice palm that’s good news about the cold weather I had read it was cold hardy so confirmation from you is reassuring thanks

You are welcome. I also have L centralis that is doing equally well.

I had a L magalonii that was going strong for years here in Melbourne. Very slow, but had it 6 years from a tiny strap leaf seedling to just starting to split fronds. It declined suddenly a couple of months ago after a couple of hail storm, I think water must’ve been pouring into the crown and just overwhelmed it because it rotted out so quickly. I’ll try again one day.

Hi Tim the hail might have been just the freeze that sent it over the edge it gets annoying when that happens a palm just suddenly dies for no apparent reason I have a carpoxylon doing the same thing right now dying for some reason beyond my knowledge it’s planted in the ground so who knows what the problem is lucky I have some more to replace it
