(syn: L. coronata var. sieboldii) We have long enjoyed the brilliant...okay, gaudy colors of the red-orange lychnis species and hybrids, but couldn't find any that were long lived until we tried the rare Japanese endemic L. sieboldii. The short rosettes of olive-green leaves with purple backs begin producing 1' tall spikes of 1" wide, deeply cut, bright orange-red flowers throughout late spring and early summer. For us, good moisture will produce scattered reblooming into fall.
