Catalogue note:
Ferdinand Little Wilsey (1797-1860) was born in New York and for many years was engaged in mercantile pursuits there. About the year 1825 Dr. Hans Burch Grain arrived in America from Sweden, and being a Free Mason became acquainted with Wilsey, then a Master of a lodge. Dr. Gram was the first to introduce Homoeopathy to the United States, and Doctor (then Mr.) Wilsey, being troubled with dyspepsia, thus became the first patient who was treated homeopathically in this country. Impressed with the effect the treatment had on his illness, he began to study the homoeopathic system under Dr. Gram's direction. At the same time he attended the lectures of the College of Physicians and Surgeons and was soon qualified to practice, and he received his M.D. By the 1830s/40s, he began practicing and seeing patients. He died in 1860 of consumption in Bergen, New Jersey. 'American Institute of Homeopathy' 1860/1870.
