Pegaso is the project of Telmo Rodriguez and Pablo Eguzkiza in the Sierra de Gredos west of Madrid. As a youth, Telmo would hike throughout Spain with his father, searching out old, forgotten vineyards, particularly along the Cañada Reales. Cebreros, a village and now appellation within the Sierra de Gredos, was one of those forgotten regions he discovered, and in 1999 Telmo began to make wine under the name Pegaso, a tribute to the famous Spanish car and truck manufacturer of the 1940s. Today, Marc Isart makes the wines from old-vine, bush trained orgainc Garnacha in soils of brown slate and granite from historic vineyards in Sierra de Gredos.

The Barrancos de Pizarra vineyards are located on red metamorphic slate soils, which are unique to the village of Cebreros, at an altitude between 950 and 1,200 meters. The wine is produced from over 60-year-old, bush-trained Garnacha vines from the vineyards of Arrebatacapas, La Redonda, La Curva, Fuente Fabian and Presidente. The grapes are fermented with native yeasts and aged for 24 months in 400 and 500 liter French oak barrels. Vibrant ruby color with explosive aromas of fresh red fruits, flowers and dried herbs with excellent freshness and strucutre on the palate: A mountain wine that is fresh, complex, direct, and profound.
