Widely distributed from southern Mexico and Florida through Central America and the Caribbean to Venezuela, this medium-sized tree is a relative of the Cherimoya and produces edible fruits that are usually of rather modest quality. It is popular for its robustness and as a rootstock for grafting fruit selections of other Annona species. Like with most Annona, the seeds and leaves are poisonous and sometimes used as an insecticide. They also have a multitude of medicinal uses.
