Info

Pagurus armatus (Dana, 1851)

The hermit crab Pagurus armatus lives in the eastern Pacific on the coasts of Alaska, Canada and the USA.

Hermit crabs have very sensitive abdomens, which they protect by covering them with empty snail shells. It is interesting that Pagurus armatus mainly specializes in the shells of moon snails. The hermit can be easily identified by the coloring of the legs and arms, which are red, orange and white.

Commonly found in the shells of moon snails.

The English name "Armed Hermit" comes from the fact that the scissors are equipped with short, sharp thorns, which means he can hold on to his food twice as well.

Synonyms:
Bernhardus armatus Dana, 1851
Eupagurus armatus (Dana, 1851)
