Ascarosepion papuense inhabits silt, sandy, sandy-muddy, muddy and seagrass substrates, where t hunts at night.
The Papuan Cuttlefish shows a wide range of behaviours and colour changes, and small individuals have been observed to mimic Halimeda seaweed fot its protection.
