Info

Doris odhneri (MacFarland, 1966)

Doris odhneri is the largest nudibranch on the California coast, up to 20 cm. This nudibranch is completely white in colour (sometimes yellowish). A conspicuous characteristic of the Giant white dorid is its gill. It is composed of seven plumes. Its rhinophores have 20 to 24 lamellae.

The Giant white dorid feed exclusively on sponges, mostly genus Halichondria (including the bread crum sponge halichondria bowerbankia and Halichondria panicea).

Similar to Doris montereyensis (more yellow with dark spots on the dorsum) and Aldisa tara (smaller than 3 cm long).

Synonymised names:
Archidoris odhneri (MacFarland, 1966)
Austrodoris odhneri MacFarland, 1966
