Thouarella (Euthouarella) hilgendorfi is widely distributed in the Indian Ocean, Indo-Pacific and Western Pacific.Around the northwestern Hawaiiian Islands, the species has been documented in a depth range of 366 - 608 meters and in the Indian Ocean between 174 - 750 meters.A depth record of 2.193 meters from 1908 seems unlikely based on current knowledge.

This gorgonian grows up to 48cm in height and 34cm in width, with its very dense tissue of branches, ramifications and polyps the gorgonian provides an almost impenetrable barrier to feeding plankton, a feast-menu place for the feeding poyles.

Synonym: Plumarella hilgendorfi Studer, 1878 ·
