Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Sarcophyton roseum are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Sarcophyton roseum, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Sarcophyton roseum, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Sarcophyton roseum is a widespread leather coral native to moderate depths from the western Indian Ocean to the western Pacific.
Among others, the leather coral is also found in the Malay Archipelago (this includes the Lesser Sunda Islands, the Greater Sunda Islands, the Moluccas and the Philippines), exact information is unfortunately also missing in the corresponding documentation).

Unfortunately we have to owe a size specification of the coral, in various documents and reports unfortunately nothing was deposited to the size of the animal.

We do not have any experience with this leather coral.

The epithet "roseum" means "rose-like, rose-colored", probably referring to the shape of the coral, which may remind of an opened rose blossom.
