Astrangia atrata is a small azooxanthellate stony coral, whose distribution area seems to be probably not yet completely explored.
In addition to the localities given in the fact sheet, Harvard University Museum of Comparative Zoology gives a finding report from Panama, Caribbean, this is the first indication of an occurrence in the western Atlantic.

The small stony coral is dependent on the catch of suitably small zooplankton.

Keeping experiences are not known at the moment.
