Info
Colonies of the sea squirt Didemnum yolky are thin, 1 to 2 mm thick, and have an irregular, often lobed outline.
They are encrusted and hard, but can break easily when removed.
Color: Primarily two very different colors are known, lemon yellow and orange-red, the sea sheath can take on any color found in the yolk.
The mouth opening of the sea squirt is wide, funnel-shaped, with six sharp lips
The edges of the cloacal openings are lined with white, and the surface of the colony may have tiny papillae.
Etymology
The name of the species is derived from the similarity of the different color stages to the color of the oviduct of chicken eggs.
Synonym: Didemnum yolki Monniot C. & Monniot F., 1997
