Dr. Wirtz has taken this photo at Ascension Island, in a shallow depth of 10 meters.

Ascension Island is an isolated volcanic island in the equatorial waters of the South Atlantic Ocean, around 1,600 kilometres from the coast of West-Africa and 2,250 kilometres from the coast of Brazil.

Polycyathus atlanticus is an azooxanthellate coral, that feed on plankton, some species of Polycyathus live in dark unterwater caves.
