So I got some more stuff done, started by wrapping and coating the rest of the exhaust and installing a Moroso heat blanket over the trans tunnel.

Installed the ps pump, serpentine belt, idler pulley, ps rack, new tie rod ends, and cooler lines.

The power steering feels awesome, and I definitely recommend the turn one reducer fitting. The car feels super light on its feet and easier to drive fast.

Also installed the spacers, all new light lenses, including jdm sidemarkers shitty carport pics

So I killed my 265's at the last autox event, so I installed the 275/40's I had in storage.

These tires are huge! Big sidewall and super wide tread. They grip really hard but I'm rubbing again due to clearance under load.

Also my car is getting sprayed tomorrow, Honda championship white! Here's a couple pics with primer and the 275's in the back:

Anyway car should be done wednesday, just in time for the Woodward Dream Cruise, the biggest automotive cruise/show in the world.

Wow yeah, guess it's time for an update...

Then, some drunk idiot backed into my freshly painted bumper, shattering the whole corner and fender, hit and run -

So then I re-glassed the fender and front bumper, bondoed, primed, and had it painted all in 24 hours! -

Motor is almost out, car is in a million pieces, taking my time.

Check this out though, I got a FREE set of RE070's off of an sti through a forum hookup...

AND my neighbor sold me these mint Enkei RS-7's with random Koenig boxes for $150

Name: 007-5.jpg

I'm thinking about painting them lime green with black Enkei stickers.. hmm.

These will probably be my street tires for a while so I'm not racking up miles on my race tires.

Anyway more news to come on the motor carnage until I can get it over to the builder for diagnosis.

Also ordered these:

MMR camber links

and MMR trailing arm spherical bearings

and an Improved Racing oil pan baffle

****.. I'm gonna be in the garage all winter again...

Since I currently have the poly bushings in the trailing arms they should come out pretty easily. I think I'm going to drop the whole subframe for this install and por-15 everything... + the underbody.

Since the existing pump was supposed to be a "new" oem ls1 unit, it will be replaced with either a melling or ported ls6. I'm also planning on running an oil cooler and an accusump system next season. Also other internal upgrades like rod bolts etc.

Painting the new wheels green tonight motor is ready to come out, just need a cherry picker.

OIl cooler? Look up howe racing radiators. They build radiators with build in oil heat exchangers. Seems to work pretty well on a friends FD V8 race car.

Thanks man, it gets discouraging at times especially since I JUST put basically the entire car together and now it all has to come out. I have a lot of plans over the winter, if all goes well the car should back MUCH harder next year.

Thanks I'll look into that, I've been considering some options for a better radiator/fan setup for a while now. I might even be messing with the mounting locations to make room for a corvette style (front feed) intake system.

.... I was waiting to get some kind of response like that on here lol

but don't judge v8 swaps because of my situation. Realistically this motor has around 100k on it, is 11 years old, not to mention having the poop beat out of it for the duration. LS motors are actually known for being pretty reliable, even under abuse.

Every motor wears out eventually, but until I get the motor disassembled we won't know the whole story.

TX I am............

.......curious as to why this thread has been up in this section for so long and the mods have not relocated it to the Other Engine Conversions Section where it belongs.

Not trying to rain on your LS parade or anything but your post count indicates you should know how this forum works and where everything is located, yet you put this thread in the wrong section? Which leads me to think that you put it in this section on purpose. Why is that if you don't mind me asking?

.....................the case then why does it matter where anything goes on this forum then? The whole reason that section of the forum exists is for threads specifically like this to go there. You don't see people posting FD threads in the 1st gen Section. Everything on this forum has: a place, form, and function. If everyone made posts carelessly it would be chaos.

Look man, all I'm trying to do here is share my information I've learned through here and show others my take on how to build an fc. Not that you probably did, but if you read the opening sentence to this thread here:

I realize that my car does not use the original drivetrain anymore, but if you haven't noticed the majority of what gets posted in this thread is non ls and picture related.

Feel free to voice your own opinion about whatever you want, but it's my opinion that people like yourself hinder the sharing of information and resources because of personal bias.

That being said, feel free to bring your rotary fc to the track with me next season; we can compare results.

....................................a LS motor swaped FC vs a Bone stock N/A S5. Not to mention I live in Texas. It is so funny all the guys that do the swap all have the same mindset, "My motor is bigger, better, and faster" lol. I am not hating cause you decided to put Pistons in YOUR FC or anything like that. It is YOUR car do what you want with it. It looks great makes a mean noise and you have good style choices I like your car and i apperciate everything you are doing in this build.

I am just saying if you want to post pictures of your build put them in the proper place. If this thread was about a Mustang getting a 20B and it was in the section I would still suggest it be moved to the proper section.

Wow looks like it's been a while since I posted an update, here's where we left off:

The motor showed signs of bearing wear towards the end of its first season, shortly after this event -

So the car went in the garage for the winter and I got to work, lots of big changes will be happening over the next few months.

Took the motor out, dropped the subframe, sent the motor out to the builder and started chassis prep -

Name: 5852.jpg
Views: 715

Finished refinishing the 17's, added matte black Enkei stickers, and installed them on the FC for the winter so that the track tires can come inside -

Painted the engine bay and front subframe -

Name: 611.jpg
Views: 729
Size: 47.6 KB

Finished the rear subframe, installed a new stub axle seal, installed MMR individual camber adjusters and MMR trailing arm spherical bearings, coated everything in POR-15 -

Name: 613.jpg
Views: 735
Size: 38.4 KB

Name: 614.jpg
Views: 723
Size: 42.1 KB

Installed a pro 5.0 shifter and steeda shift lever with a 4'' delrin ****, coated the trans in silver POR-15 -

Name: 615.jpg
Views: 722
Size: 40.9 KB

Installed pinion snubber, cleaned and refinished the entire underbody and wheel wells with 3M rubberized undercoating (about 5 cans) -

Name: 616.jpg
Views: 728
Size: 48.9 KB

Lots more to come, the chassis (besides a roll cage) is basically finished and ready for the new motor to come back in.

I'll post in more detail about the progress on the motor later, but I'll be picking up these super clean C5 Z06 heads this week -
