What are Degrees of Comparison?
Degrees of Comparison are used when we compare one
person or one thing with another. Degrees of
Comparison apply to adjectives or adverbs.
There are three Degrees of Comparison in English.
1. Positive degree.
2. Comparative degree.
3. Superlative degree.
For example :
Positive Comparative Superlative

Expensive More expensive Most expensive
What is Positive Degree?
Positive degree (denotes the simple degree)
to compare two equal things. when we speak
about only one person or thing, we use the
Positive degree.
For example :
• Anita is as diligent as Anna
• Tom works as diligently as John
• I am as smart as my brother
What is comparative degree?
Comparative degree (denotes a higher degree) to
compare two more things, when we compare two
persons or two things with each other, we use both the
Comparative degree.
Examples:
1. He is taller than me
2. This task is easier than the previous one.
3. My sister is more beautiful than Linda
What is Superlative degree?
Superlative degree (denotes the highest degree)
when we compare more than two persons or things
with one another,
we use all the three Positive, Comparative and
Superlative degrees.
For example :
1.I am the shortest girl among my friends.
2.Mr. Budiman is the richest man in this town.
3.Semeru is the highest mountain in East Java
