Cyathia is a term used to describe a specific type of inflorescence found in plants from the Euphorbiaceae family, which includes certain succulent species. In succulents, such as some Euphorbia species, the cyathia are specialized structures that contain multiple small flowers arranged in a cup-like formation.
The cyathium itself is composed of several parts. At the center, there is a single female flower, which consists of a pistil with a stigma for receiving pollen. Surrounding the female flower are multiple male flowers, each consisting of a stamen with pollen-producing anthers. The male flowers are often reduced to just their reproductive parts, lacking petals or sepals.
