Keele University was founded as the University College of North Staffordshire in 1949 and received its charter as the University of Keele in 1962. The institution is situated on a campus with extensive woods, lakes and parkland in north Staffordshire, between Manchester and Birmingham.

Courses and teaching 

The university's most popular courses are Medicine, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Children's Nursing, English, Pharmacy, Geography, Psychology, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry and Neuroscience.

All undergraduate degrees at Keele cost £9,000 per annum.

Student life

There is a thriving student life around the campus and a wide range of café-bars, restaurants and pubs in Newcastle-under-Lyme and clubs in Hanley. Theatre lovers will enjoy the New Vic in Newcastle and the Regent in Hanley, while the latest films are shown at the multi-screen cinema in Newcastle. The UK’s biggest theme park, Alton Towers, is around 45 minutes from the university.

Students staying in halls during the 2016/2017 academic year can rent standard rooms from £2,2278.83 annually, rising to £5,973.28 for a premier en suite room. 

Education

A major extension of the David Weatherall Building now includes added surgical training, wet lab and 3D audiovisual facilities. 

Sport

The university has extensive sports fields, tennis courts and indoor sports facilities including a fitness centre, climbing wall and courts for basketball, five-a-side football, badminton, squash, netball, korfball, karate and aerobics.

Other

Quidditch is a popular sport amongst Keele's students.

Transport

Bus

From Stoke-on-Trent bus station, First's 25 bus takes about 32 minutes to get to the university. The service stops in Newcastle-under-Lyme and a number of places on campus, including Keele village.

From Crewe bus station, Arriva buses to Newcastle-under-Lyme (No 85 service) leave from the stop to the right of the station entrance towards the roundabout. The service leaves at five minutes past the hour (Monday to Saturday), takes about 50 minutes and stops in Keele village and Barnes Hall.

Train

The nearest railway stations to Keele are: Stoke-on-Trent (five miles) and Crewe (12 miles). For national train times and inquiries click here

Air

Manchester Airport is nearest to Keele and is about 35 miles away.

There are frequent trains from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly station where there is a regular service to Stoke-on-Trent railway station. Alternatively, National Express operates a direct service to Stoke-on-Trent (Hanley bus station) eight times a day.

Coach

National Express serves Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent from all major UK destinations.
