Linebackers Branden Jennings and Demeioun Robinson named to ESPN’s Midseason True Freshman All-American Team

Maryland football has a few young gems on its roster that have stood out nationally halfway through the season.

ESPN released its list for its Midseason True Freshman All-American Team and the Terps had Branden Jennings and Demeioun Robinson named to the linebacker section. Both linebackers have played important roles on the defense this season for head coach Michael Locksley’s program.

Jennings has been the more impactful linebacker of the two as he totaled 13 solo tackles and 18 total tackles through the opening four games of the season. Jennings has been absent with an injury since exiting against in the Maryland win over Kent State back on Sept. 25. Before going down with a lower-body injury, the freshman collected one forced fumble and was a mainstay in the linebacker group.

Robinson, on the other hand, came to Maryland as a consensus four-star linebacker, and he also has been a positive force on defense for the Terps. The Gaithersburg, Maryland native’s production has seen an uptick over the last four games. He’s recorded a solo tackle in each game since Maryland’s meeting with Illinois, and Robinson’s best game of the season came against Kent State when he recorded his first sack of the 2021 season.

Both players have helped fill in the holes in Maryland’s linebacker corps, and the team’s hope is that Jennings can make an eventual return to the field coming off his injury. The duo will certainly be in the Terps’ defensive plans for the future, and if the first six games proved anything, it’s that Maryland has endless potential at linebacker in the coming years ahead.
