Zephyr has scooped two standalone middle-grade titles by debut children’s author Gita Ralleigh. A pre-empt was made for world all-languages rights to The Destiny of Minou Moonshine and a second book, from Catherine Pellegrino at Marjacq.
A queendom set in an alternate colonial India, The Destiny of Minou Moonshine blends historical fantasy, magical realism and steampunk. It will launch in July 2023 in hardback, e-book and audiobook, followed by a paperback edition published in July 2024.
Ralleigh is an NHS doctor, a published poet and teaches creative writing to undergraduates at Imperial College. She said: “I have long admired Zephyr’s original and imaginative books for young readers, and I’m completely thrilled to place The Destiny Of Minou Moonshine in their capable hands.”
Lauren Atherton, editor, said: “Gita’s gorgeous writing sweeps you away to a magical world of goddesses, queens, rebels, temples and tyrants. It’s a story that celebrates freedom and standing up for what’s right, with a heroine that readers will fall in love with. Zephyr are hugely excited to be working with Catherine and Gita to launch her debut.”
Pellegrino added: "Lauren’s passion for Minou completely bowled us over and I know that she and her team will publish Gita with creativity and flair."
