Mikado

A spokeswoman for Mondelez said it was experiencing low stock of Mikado due to supply chain challenges

Mondelez’s on-the-go biscuit brand Mikado has disappeared from supermarkets amid supply chain disruption.

As The Grocer went to press, an online search for the brand across Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s returned only one SKU, which was tagged as “out-of-stock” in Asda.

A spokeswoman for Mondelez said it was “experiencing low stock of Mikado due to supply chain challenges, meaning availability may vary by store and location”.

The confectionery giant was “working hard to bring this product back on the shelves as soon as possible”, she said.

Consumers have taken to Twitter over recent days to complain about the absence of the product in stores.

One shopper tweeted Morrisons was “always sold out” of the product and “none of the corner shops” had it.

Mikado isn’t the only Mondelez brand that appears to be struggling with supply, however.

At the time of writing, Milka’s core Alpine Milk Chocolate bars could not be ordered from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury’s online – although some Milka SKUs with other ingredients such as hazelnut and yoghurt were still available.

The Grocer has approached Mondelez and the retailers for further comment.

It comes as rival Mars has also been struggling to supply many lines of its core confectionery brands, including Topic, Skittles, Minstrels, Mars  and Bounty.

Mars blamed the shelf gaps across its portfolio on “high levels of demand” for its treats.
