Sheffield band cut from Jimmy Kimmel Live as West confronts chatshow host over parody of BBC Radio 1 interview

Arctic Monkeys' performance was cut from Wednesday night's Jimmy Kimmel Live show after Kanye West's interview overran its allotted time.

The Sheffield quartet were scheduled to play on the US television chatshow on Wednesday, but the performance was scrapped following a lengthy sit down with the planet's self-proclaimed "biggest rock star".

West was invited on to Jimmy Kimmel Live a fortnight after lashed out at the programme's eponymous host over a parody of West's now much discussed interview with Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe. The skit, which featured a child actor recreating some of West's quotes from the interview, led the rapper to respond with a series of angry tweets. "Jimmy Kimmel is out of line to try and spoof in any way the first piece of honest media in years," wrote West.

To clear the air, the Black Skinhead rapper appeared on the show and confronted Kimmel about the spoof. He later tried to justify his angry reaction, saying: "This is the one person I know, so I can go and let out everything that I feel about every single bogus weekly cover, every single bogus skit, every single rumour in barbershop, everything that people feel is OK to treat celebrities like zoo animals or act like what they're saying is not serious or their life is not serious or their dreams are not serious."

He also spoke passionately about the discrimination he has faced based on his class, and discoursed on topics including high fashion, the Hollywood Walk of Fame organisation's refusal to grant girlfriend Kim Kardashian a star, and the "disrespectful" methods of the paparazzi and the media.

"The way the paparazzi talk to me and my family is disrespectful also, you know what I'm saying?" West explained. "We bring something of joy to the world. When people hear my music they have a good time, and I should be respected as such when I walk down the street. Don't ask me a question about something you saw on the tabloids. Don't try to antagonise me, because it's not safe for you in this zoo, you know? Never think that I'm not from Chicago for one second."

Before the show, Arctic Monkeys sent out a message asking fans to watch their performance. The band tweeted from their account: "Arctic Monkeys will be performing on tonight's @JimmyKimmelLive on ABC at 11.35pm(PST)/10.35(CST)." A rescheduled performance has not yet been announced.
