e) A clay sample is isotropically normally consolidated to po = po = 400 kPa and Vo =2.052. A second sample (Sample B) is isotropically consolidated to 863 kPa and allowed to swell to p = P, = 40 kPa when vo=2.052. The values of the soil constants for the clay are =3.16, 2=0.2 and M=0.94.

 (If needed you can assume values of the required parameters )

(a) Find the pore pressure at failure of each sample, if both the samples are subjected to standard undrained triaxial compression tests

 (b) Find the volumetric strain of each sample at critical state, if both the samples are subjected to standard drained triaxial compression tests.
