People are savouring the delectable flavours of the traditional cuisine of Himachal Pradesh at the Saras fair being held at Sector 34, Chandigarh, all thanks to the women of a Self-Help Group (SHG) from Trans-Giri area in Sirmaur district.

The women have set up a stall at the fair serving many Himachali dishes such as Siddu, Tel Paki, Lushke, Patande, Malpude, Cholaai Kheer, Corn and Kodda Roti.

For this, a mobile food van was made available under the self-help scheme of the Central Government.

Saina Rana and Shyama Thakur, members of the self-help group who are operating the stall, said they earned Rs 2 lakh in the last week alone.

“Siddu is very popular among the visitors of the fair due to its unique taste,” said Shyama Thakur.

According to the women, about 2,000 women are registered with SHGs in Sirmaur district.

“It is a matter of great pride for the women of rural areas, who were previously confined to their kitchens, to serve Himachali dishes to people in every corner of the country,” Saina Rana said.
