I like the design of these, but can we have one that has a rhombus instead of a diamond, please.

How can these flashcards be used to engage learning?

Flashcards are a fantastic resource in the classroom, and they can be used in many different ways! The set of 2D shapes flashcards is a handy tool that can be used to enhance a variety of ESL activities. For starters, these flashcards can be used as an inspiration during independent writing activities.

Students can pick a card, study the shape and then write a short story or a descriptive paragraph about it. You can also hold up a card and ask your students to spell the shape's name. It's a fun and interactive way to help your students remember the spelling of each shape. These 2D shapes flashcards can also start discussions about the topic. You can hold up a card and ask students to describe the shape, name objects that have that shape, or even draw the shape on the board.

In what other ways can I teach kids about shapes?

There are many incredible ways to teach tiny humans about shapes and help them develop their spatial awareness skills. One fun and interactive way is to use tangible objects like blocks, balls, and puzzles to help them understand the characteristics and properties of different shapes. You can also incorporate shapes into everyday activities, like pointing out the circular shape of a plate or the rectangular shape of a book. Additionally, there are many educational apps and games that can make learning about shapes both engaging and entertaining. By using a variety of methods to teach about shapes, we can help our tiny humans develop a strong foundation in geometry and set them up for future success in math and science.

Our resource library is jam-packed with tons of incredible teacher-made resources that you can use to supplement your lessons. So, if you're looking for resources to incorporate into a lesson about shapes, we've got a couple of cool ones that we think you should have a look at:

  • This similar shapes worksheet is a fun way to encourage your students to practise their visual observation skills and identify similar shapes. They can go on a similar shapes hunt around your classroom or even go outside for a similar shapes activity in nature.
  • Help students relate real-world objects to 3D shapes with these 3D Shapes with Real-World Examples Posters. Each poster features a shape and a real-world object to demonstrate the connection. They're also great for livening up the walls in your classroom.
  • This 2D Shapes Sorting Game is a great way for students to take everyday objects, such as windows, and classify them as 2D shapes. It covers squares, circles and triangles; this is a fantastic game and will surely keep your students engaged!

Fun facts about shapes

  1. The rhombus is unique because it has four equal sides, but its opposite angles are unequal.
  2. Spheres are the only shapes that have no edges or corners.
  3. The star shape that we draw actually has 10 points, not five like we usually think.
  4. The square is a special type of rectangle because it has four equal sides and four equal angles.
