A spreading shrub, with elegant arching branches and attractive feathery, grey-green foliage. Dense racemes of pink-purple, pea-like flowers are borne non-stop from early summer right through until early autumn. This unusual, hardy shrub has a prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit and makes a fantastic addition to an exotic garden or as part of a mixed shrub border, where it will flower all summer long. Although hardy, Himalayan Indigo will die back during severe winters, behaving as a herbaceous perennial. Height and spread: 1.2m (4'). Supplied in a 3 litre pot.

Gradually acclimatise Himalayan Indigo to outdoor conditions over a period of 7 to 10 days. Plant Indigofera in any well-drained soil, in full sun with shelter from cold winds. Incorporate plenty of compost or well-rotted manure prior to planting.

Feed and water Indigofera heterantha regularly until fully established. Once established, Himalayan Indigo requires little attention except for the occasional removal of damaged, diseased and misplaced shoots in late winter or early spring. During severe winters the branches may die back, in which case they can be pruned close to the base of the plant in early spring.
