Sturdy shrub to small tree about 4 m high and broad, with a broad, vase-shaped growth pattern. Does not branch strongly when young. The somewhat glossy, dark green leaf turns yellow, orange, and red in autumn. Blossoms fairly early in winter, around December/January. The flowers measure about 4 cm and are coppery orange. They have hardly any fragrance. This cultivar was initially distributed on a small scale under the provisional name ‘Copper Beauty’: this name was never published and remains only as a synonym. The unique flower colour makes ‘Jelena’ an indispensable cultivar in the assortment.
