This morning, as she opened Michael Kors’s Fall 2016 show, Freja Beja Erichsen was the picture of ease. Her apparent state of relaxation could be credited to the fact that this was her only runway appearance this week, but also to the way the Danish model embodies the healthy cool-girl beauty look Kors had designed for the show. For example, the Dick Page–painted smudge of lash-enhancing eyeliner is a trick Erichsen says she uses daily; in fact, she carries both black and dark brown eyeliner in her makeup bag for that specific purpose. “[For] daytime, brown is better and not so obvious,” she says, “and for nighttime, black.” The two pencils join an eyelash curler, Chanel mascara, and not one but three lip balms in her on-the-go kit. “I don’t really wear lipstick,” she confesses. Instead, she keeps her lips hydrated with a rotating cocktail of lip balms. “When you use only one thing, your lips get used to it, so I try different things—something natural from Whole Foods and [a few] other formulas.”

Erichsen’s piece-y curls and lash-skimming bangs on the runway were a near mirror image of her own air-dried, finger-combed, everyday style, for which she says she doesn’t “really do anything.” Consider that the power of a genius hairstylist. “[Christiaan] still cuts it sometimes,” she says. “He does such a great job.”
