New to me: Cartier Basculante 2390

I have been looking at the Basculante since I first started getting into Cartier but never found the right specimen. The price hikes the last two years seemed as if I had forever missed the boat, but then a local opportunity emerged to acquire the watch as part of a trade. The present example is a very nice specimen in great condition and is a limited "millennium" edition with a factory engraving on the back (not to be confused with the IMO more attractive MM dial from the year before).

The size and feel of this one is excellent. Same diameter as the new Must but longer, and the folding mechanism has attractive polishing giving the entire case a more dynamic feel. It's also surprisingly thin, notably more so than the 1931 tribute reverso, and even a hair thinner than the quartz Must, despite the Basculante housing a complicated swivel mechanism. All due to the movement of course, a lovely Piguet. Compared to most other Cartier Tanks, the outer brancards are thinner and from the side also slightly scalloped (a bit like the old Yachtmaster). The dial has the traditional Cartier guilloche, though it is comparatively less deep in the grooves than eg my Tonneau. Now the big question: which strap to fit on this one? I like the relaxed look of the nubuck it came on but wondering if a more solid color might work better. Suggestions more than welcome!

I was also debating about this one to compliment my Reverso but as you say the market has gone a bit off the rails lately. I’m waiting for an orange strap with navy stitching to arrive which I think will go well with the blue hands and white dial of my Re...

Thank you!

Iconic, on every level. Strapwise, I think a burgundy alligator would look killer on this piece. I like the nubuk too, for a cool and casual look. Enjoy!

Thank you dear Nico!

Your opinion is as always highly appreciated. Let's see, but right now I can imagine this one getting lots of wrist time; it being steel makes it an excellent daily wearer

congratulations. gorgeous piece
