The Shrieking Shack

An abandoned house bordering Hogsmeade, The Shrieking Shack was rumoured to have been haunted due to the screams heard by locals for many years. Even ghosts were said to avoid it, and the dwelling was dubbed the most haunted in Britain. Although that rumour was not true, it was encouraged by Dumbledore who realised that the Shrieking Shack could provide a safe space for a young Remus Lupin to get away from the school during a full moon. And so, a passageway from the Hogwarts grounds was created, the entrance guarded by the Whomping Willow, which led straight to the Shack.
