CLIO, Mich. (WNEM) – The Clio Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place at a Rite Aid Pharmacy Sunday afternoon, April 7.

On Sunday, about 1:45 p.m., the Rite Aid at 100 E. Vienna St. in Clio was robbed by an unknown suspect, police said.

Police described the suspect as a man, about 5′10″ and weighing 160 pounds.

Police said he entered the store and seemed to assess the number of customers inside, and then walked back out of the store for a moment until the store was less crowded.

When he came back into the store, he took two prepaid Visa cards and put them on the counter, handing the clerk a note at the same time, police said, adding the note said the suspect was armed with a gun and he demanded money from the register.

Police said the suspect was briefly distracted by a woman and a child who had walked into the store, but he told the clerk to ring up a cash sale on the Visa gift cards, activating one for $500 and one for $300, and then demanded cash from the register.

The suspect then took the Visa cards, the cash, and the note he originally gave to the clerk and fled the store, police said, adding he possibly drove north on Mill Street in a small, dark-colored SUV.
