Meteorologist Jaret Lansford joined the First Alert Weather Team in May 2022 after working on the weather team for more than five years at sister station KTIV in Sioux City. At KTIV, Jaret spent more than three years on the top-rated morning and midday shows in Sioux City and was a part of several Emmy-winning newscasts for severe storm and winter weather coverage.
Before his time in Sioux City, Jaret attended Iowa State University, earning his degree in meteorology — Go Cyclones! He is originally from Lyndon, Ill., a village of just under 600 people located about 45 minutes northeast of the Quad Cities. While he enjoys the small-town life, Jaret is excited to explore Omaha and all it has to offer.
As a major foodie, he cannot wait to start checking out the plethora of great restaurants he has heard about in the city. In his free time, Jaret also enjoys cooking, traveling, listening to all kinds of music and learning about history and cultures.
The numerous rounds of storms that we have seen over the past week has us well ahead of schedule for the month of May.
The highest chance for strong storms comes after 3 PM along and south of Interstate 80.
Multiple rounds of storms over the next few days will bring the threat for severe weather to our area, especially Friday afternoon and Saturday evening.
Gusts on Monday could reach 45 miles per hour out of the south and Tuesday will give us 30 miles per hour gusts out of the northwest.
Flooding — particularly flash flooding — is an issue that may be enhanced with the warming climate.
By the afternoon, the cloud cover will fill in more but it will not prevent us from getting into the upper 60s for highs.
Fires in Kansas and Oklahoma have brought smoke into our area, occasionally dropping the air quality some Thursday morning.
After some morning cloud cover, we will see a mild and sunny afternoon where we peak in the low to mid 60s.
The clouds likely hang around through the middle of the day but, as sunshine breaks through in the afternoon, our temperatures will jump into the mid to upper 40s.
Our highs will be near the freezing mark with gusty winds continuing through the afternoon, making it feel like the teens for most of the day.
After 3 PM, scattered thunderstorms will become possible into the early evening hours.
Clouds will be slow to clear for the rest of the day with some sunshine breaking through in the afternoon.
After midnight, though, our chances will increase for scattered showers, especially along and north of Interstate 80.
Expect a day with lots of sunshine in place and temps that peak in the upper 50s this afternoon.
Throughout the day, the off and on showers will be with us with gradual trend toward less showers being around by the late afternoon and evening.
Like our past few days, we will see a nice climb in our temperatures with highs near 70 degrees by the afternoon.
Several lanes are blocked along westbound I-80 at the I-L-Q exit after a semi rolled and came to rest between the two bridges there.
A quick round of winter weather that brings a sharp drop and temperatures and a chance for snow.
Saturday will be a lot like Friday with a quick rise in the temps through the morning and a high that ends up in the 60s under a sunny sky.
Eastbound drivers will be impacted more to start the day with westbound drivers dealing with the low visibility in the evening.
The next phase of construction for the expansion project of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Saddle Creek campus will begin impacting traffic soon.
Several crashes on the interstates in the Omaha-metro slowed the Tuesday morning commute for many drivers in the area.
The light precipitation should wrap up around midday though the clouds and fog will stick around throughout the day.
Temperatures stay in the low to mid 30s most of the day with winds gradually decreasing.
Wind chills will again be locked in the -20 to -30 range for most of the day Monday.
New Year’s Day gives us decreasing cloud cover with temperatures that end up in the mid 30s.
Most of the day will see cloud cover overhead, a trend that will remain with us into the weekend.
Our temperatures will top out in the mid 50s with increasing cloud cover through the day.
Temperatures will warm quickly as we go through the morning hours, leading to a great December afternoon.
For the next five weeks, expect varying lane restrictions as you make your way through the stretch of Dodge between 48th and 46th.
The peak chance for snow will be through the early evening and into the overnight with the highest totals south of Interstate 80.
The work is to widen this stretch from two lanes to four to handle the growing traffic load.

A mostly cloudy sky will be in place through the day and will be part of the reason we only get to the low 30s for highs.
Highs will just get into the 40s with a steady north breeze around as well.
Temperatures will recover very nicely today as we land in the mid 50s for highs.
Crews are working to finish the 90th & Center bridge before winter. Street widening at 156th & Pacific will pause during winter.
Some clouds will drift through during the afternoon but those will not prevent it from being a solid close to the day.
Those at the Nebraska DOT have a solution that they think will help reduce the impacts along some of the busiest areas of Interstate 80 in Omaha.
The northwest winds will be gusty today and combine with temps that only get into the low 40s to make for a much colder day.
Winds will be noticeable with gusts peaking in the middle of the day out of the north; those gusts will top out in the 25 to 30 miles per hour range.
Though it will be a bit of a chilly start with temps in the 30s and 40s early, it will warm quickly with sunshine overhead.

It will be quite blustery behind the front with northwest winds that gust up to 40 miles per hour through the afternoon.
A cold front moves through during the day today, switching our winds from the south to the northwest.
With a little more mugginess in place today, the heat index in the afternoon will approach 100 degrees at its peak.
We will not get to 100 degrees today but it will still be hot and humid as we climb into the mid 90s with a heat index peaking near 105 this afternoon.
We still get to the mid 90s Sunday and the high mugginess levels mean that it will still feel like 105 to 110 degrees this afternoon.
A stray shower will be possible from the middle of the day into the mid afternoon, though most will stay dry.
Friday also looks pretty nice with temperatures in the mid 80s and upper 80s on Saturday.
