udiksvall, with 16.000 inhabitants was during the 19th century a<br />

major centre <strong>of</strong> the Swedish timber industry.<br />

Today the city is the centre <strong>of</strong> the county <strong>of</strong> Hälsingland, one <strong>of</strong> the<br />

most beautiful landscapes in Sweden.<br />

SHORE EXCURSIONS:<br />

Tour around the Dellen Lakes<br />

Scenic view <strong>of</strong> a fantastic landscape. Visit to a collection <strong>of</strong> old farm<br />

houses.<br />

Långvind Tour<br />

Visit an old medieval church, Långvind Ironworks established in 1687<br />

and Långvind Mansion, built in 1799.<br />

Tour Hälsingland farm houses<br />

<strong>The</strong> unique farm houses <strong>of</strong> Hälsingland from the 18th and 19th centuries<br />

are called the “timber palaces” .<br />

City Walk<br />

Visit <strong>The</strong> Hälsinglands Museum, Fishermen’s town (old part <strong>of</strong> Hudiksvall)<br />

and Jakobs church. Most <strong>of</strong> the entrances are wide enough to<br />

accommodate wheelchairs.<br />

Folk Music Gathering<br />

Hudiksvall is well known for its traditional local music. In summer, you<br />

can enjoy concerts in homestead museums, churches and hill farms.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are also meetings <strong>of</strong> traditional fiddlers and other musicians,<br />

that are open to the public. It is not unusual for such events to gather<br />

thousands <strong>of</strong> participants and spectators. Most meetings are part <strong>of</strong> the<br />

festival Music by the Dellen Lakes.<br />

rnsköldsvik is a part <strong>of</strong> the World Heritage Area "Höga Kusten" (the High<br />

Coast) with its magnificent views and fantastic archipelago. People have<br />

been living here since the Stone Age and have helped shape the landscape<br />

we see today. <strong>The</strong> population is 55.000 <strong>of</strong> which 35.000 live in the central region and<br />

the town <strong>of</strong> Örnsköldsvik.<br />

SHORE EXCURSIONS:<br />

<strong>The</strong> High Coast World Heritage<br />

You will visit Skuleskogen and the mighty Skuleberget, rising 295 metres above<br />

sea level, a symbol <strong>of</strong> the High Coast. In the program also is a visit to Mjälloms<br />

Tunnbröd, a genuine High Coast flatbread bakery, and Mannaminne, a<br />

museum village created so that you can see everything that happened during<br />

the life time <strong>of</strong> the inhabitants. In the afternoon Norrfällsviken, the outermost<br />

archipelago <strong>of</strong> the High Coast.<br />

Fiskevistet: Skagshamn and Skeppsmalen<br />

are old fishing villages in the High Coast, an old pilot boat station and genuine<br />

fishing sheds. Visit Fiskevistet- the world´s first surströmming museum and<br />

restaurant. (surströmming - fermented herring)You’ll also find a well preserved<br />

fishermen’s chapel dating back to the mid-17th century here. Visit also Skags<br />

udde, the furthest outpost where a light house is situated by the cliffs. Visit<br />

Bruksgodset, pottery with shop and open workshop.<br />

<strong>The</strong> City Centre<br />

<strong>The</strong> City centre is situated within less than five minutes walking distance from<br />

the harbour. Guided tours or stroll on your own. Visit Örnsköldsvik Museum<br />

and Art Gallery, and the Museum <strong>of</strong> Hans Hedberg. If you are interested in<br />

golf you’ll find Veckefjärden within a couple <strong>of</strong> minutes by car. Go to Varvsberget,<br />

the mountain within walking distance where you have a beautiful view<br />

over the town and the archipelago. Plenty <strong>of</strong> cafés and restaurants.<br />

Outside <strong>of</strong> Örnsköldsvik<br />

Strutsfarmen, Gerdal, Ostrichfarm, handicrafts, country café and restaurant.<br />

Churches & local history museums<br />

<strong>The</strong>re are several churches <strong>of</strong> interest, for instance Själevad church,<br />

declared Swedens most beautiful church in a nationwide vote a few years ago.<br />

Källarbackens Saga (Fairy Tale Trail)<br />

Meet Hansel & Gretel and other characters from the Fairy tales.<br />

Gammelgården, Myckelgensjö, one <strong>of</strong> Sweden's best preserved farms from<br />

the 18th century, with 28 buildings.<br />

ori, established in 1558, with a population <strong>of</strong> 82.500, is an industrial<br />

city with a great cultural heritage and presence.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Pori Jazz Festival, every summer, is one <strong>of</strong> the biggest in Europe.<br />

Reposaari – <strong>The</strong> maritime fishermen’s village <strong>of</strong> Pori, Finland.<br />

Reposaari <strong>of</strong>fers magnificent maritime scenery and places <strong>of</strong> interest like<br />

a Norwegian-style fjeld church and an Old Garrision park.<br />

Villa Mairea – the place <strong>of</strong> pilgrimage <strong>of</strong> architects.<br />

Villa Mairea was built in 1939 based on the designs <strong>of</strong> the world known<br />

architects Aino and Alvar Aalto. <strong>The</strong> designers were given a free hand<br />

and an opportunity for unrestricted experimentation. This unique<br />

work <strong>of</strong> art attained worldwide recognition as one <strong>of</strong> the greatest<br />

masterpieces <strong>of</strong> 20th-century architecture.<br />

City walk, an easy-going jazz city.<br />

<strong>The</strong> parks, the marketplace, the market hall and the pedestrian street<br />

<strong>of</strong>fer visitors a pleasant and lively environment in the city center <strong>of</strong> Pori.<br />

Pori Art Museum has been famous for its modern art exhibitions for<br />

almost two decades and has from the beginning focused on the new<br />

phenomena <strong>of</strong> the visual arts.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Juselius Mausoleum was built by a local industrialist, F.A. Juselius, for<br />

his daughter, who died at the age <strong>of</strong> 11. <strong>The</strong> original frescos, painted by<br />

the artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela, were later destroyed. <strong>The</strong> wall paintings<br />

seen today are the work <strong>of</strong> artist Jorma Gallen-Kallela, who painted<br />

them in his father’s style.<br />

More than 25000 passengers have visited our destinations since the <strong>Bothnia</strong> <strong>Cruise</strong> <strong>Ports</strong><br />

marketing project started in 2005. From mid May to early August 24 hours daylight can be<br />

experienced here. What about golfing in sunshine, swimming from the beaches or even just<br />

relish the special feeling <strong>of</strong> being within the Arctic Circle. Six UNESCO World heritage sites<br />

within reach from the ports.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Rokua Geopark just outside Oulu brings you back to the Ice Age. What is significant for<br />

our area – besides the special light deep forests, rapid water falls, wonderful archipelagos and<br />

not to forget clean and fresh air. Meet also the Sámi people and their culture in Lapland.<br />
