In comparison to normal <strong>Selection</strong> models<br />

this set has been enhanced at crucial points and<br />

it marks the pinnacle in the speaker range produced<br />

by the traditional Pulheim company.<br />

Unusually styled with a white cone and large rubber<br />

dust cap, the 16 series model is pleasing with<br />

its extremely solid construction. It features the largest<br />

drive in the test and is consequently also<br />

home to the largest voice coil. A significant degree<br />

of resilience is entrusted to the component measuring<br />

a full 38 mm in diameter. In order to prevent<br />

impact during maximum travel the underside of<br />

the pole core is arranged in the same way as a<br />

subwoofer. The cone suspension consists of a<br />

large spider, which is mounted on a spacer ring -<br />

again to create space for travel reserves.<br />

Sound<br />

The <strong>Reference</strong> unit really lets rip with the power<br />

amplifier. You really get the feeling that the system<br />

has a lot of fun when it's cranked up. Thanks to<br />

its powerful drive the 16 series model generates<br />

bass pulses with relish and delivers precise beats<br />

as required. There is also little to criticise about the<br />

mid-range, as there is no nonsense from the <strong>Magnat</strong><br />

unit and it reproduces music accurately. The<br />

treble range has really become something magnificent.<br />

The tweeter spoils the ear with an excellent<br />

resolution without forcing itself into the foreground,<br />

ensuring even the most fastidious of listeners<br />

get their full money's worth. “<br />
