sunlight, for example, and thus require strong light in the

Breathtaking underwater aquascapes 

A well-appointed aquarium immediately captures attention. Plants play a 

fundamental role in the biological balance in the tank. Aquatic plants 

produce the oxygen that living fish require and remove the excess 

nutritional substances left by food. Quick-growing plants absorb 

phosphates and nitrates, thereby avoiding an excessive growth of algae. 

Only strong and hearty plants grow quickly and can exercise their vital 

functions. 

Thanks to one of the largest nurseries of aquatic plants in Europe and a 

partner in Sri Lanka, Dennerle is the specialist in high quality aquatic 

plants. 

To obtain an attractive effect in your aquarium, just remember a pair of 

rules: place lower plants in the foreground and higher ones in the 

background. In this way, the tank seems to have a deeper perspective. 

A similar effect can be obtained by arranging a bottom that slopes 

slightly upward toward the rear. 

A beautiful aquarium also requires a contrast of forms and colours to 

create variety and contrast. An aciform plant near a mixture of round 

leaves or even a red Echinodorus near an intense green Micranthemum 

create harmonic and interesting effects. 

At least half of the initial stock of plants should consist of fast-growing 

stem plants. 

They accelerate reaching biological balance. Later, they can be replaced 

with slower-growing species. 

Professional tip: 

In nature, long-stemmed 

plants never grow alone. The 

same is true of an aquarium. 

Therefore it is advisable to 

group the plants near each
