RMB586AA–Onion Seeds. They're not big-drum sticks. They're not knobkerries. If you know your onions, you've probably recognised them already for they're leek seeds growing at Ryvers Farm, Langley, Bucks. Dorothy Brown, 20 and Dorothy Larke, 21, arechecking the seed pods, and each pod contains an average of three seeds. There are three-quarters of an acre of the plants. Three times 2000 is 6,000. Now how many square feet are there in an acre-well, you're looking at a lot of leeks-to-be. September 1949 P004460

RM2DF6KTB–1940s, historical, a farmer in field steering a plough being pulled by two shire horses England, UK. Before mechanisation, this was the traditional method of ploughing or turning the soil in a field for new planting but was intensive manual work. The use of horses rather than the original oxen meant more acres of land could be ploughed per day as the horses were faster. An amazing farm tool, the plough has been used for around 4,000 years and while there have been some improvements, the basic technology has remained the same, that of cutting a long slice of soil and turning it upside down.
