Many exemplary men have I known, holy in heartand life, within fourscore years; but one equal to him I havenot known; one so inwardly and outwardly devoted to God.So unblamable a character in every respect I have not foundeither in Europe or America, and I scarce expect to find suchanother on this side of eternity. A pattern of all holiness, scarce to be paralleled in a century! Three years, nine months, and two days I have pos.-sessed my heavenly-minded husband, wrote Mrs. Fletcher;but now the sun of my earthly joy is set forever. Shelived on into the next century, continuing her evangelistic 952 British Methodism work; maintaining a House Beautiful for pilgrim preach-ers and people. A chapel and college were erected to thememory of her husband at Lausanne, Switzerland, in 1867, and a chapel at Leytonstone, Essex, commemorates her life-work. In City Road Chapel is a marble tablet on which an. BY P E. FLINTOFF. FLETCHER MEMORIAL CHAPEL AND COLLEGE, LAUSANNE. inscription by Richard Watson describes Methodisms idealsaint, who, beholding the glory of God in the face ofJesus Christ, was changed into the same image, teaching byhis own attainments, more than even by his writings, thefullness of the evangelical promises, and with what intimacyof communion man may walk with God. Nearly twentyyears after his death Robert Crowther, whose circuit includedMadeley, wrote of Fletcher and his abiding influence : He, being dead, yet speaketh. He lives in the memory of hun-dreds, and his spirit and temper live in the peoples hearts.Such a spirit of piety as prevailed for several miles in andabout Madeley I had never before witnessed.
